Path of Study Details and Guidelines

Consider for a moment what it would mean for a lot of people to have the precious dharma literally at their fingertips, at any time and at any place they wish. Nothing less is the vision of providing all classes of our Nalandabodhi Study Path as self-paced courses that are available 24/7. This is a true wish-fulfilling tree and a wish-fulfilling jewel for countless beings, which just keeps snowballing forever. So I encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Guidelines for Online Courses

Nalandabodhi’s online courses are intended to provide Path of Study access for these groups:

● Akasha (online) members who do not have access to regular courses at a Nalandabodhi center or study group

● The general public (i.e., people who are exploring an interest in the dharma)

● Members of Nalandabodhi centers whose circumstances prevent them from attending the regular courses at their center. For example, a student may live too far from the center to attend classes, they may be ill or otherwise unable to attend in person, the courses are scheduled irregularly, etc.

Your Invitation to Join the Online Path of Study

Whether you are new to Buddhism or an experienced dharma student, Nalandabodhi invites you to explore the online Path of Study.

Working independently, you will have the support of online study facilitators, who are Nalandabodhi members that have completed all the course material.

Study facilitators can answer your questions and clarify difficult points in the course material. They provide a human face for the online curriculum and a sense of community, so that you will not be traveling the study path alone.

The study path is organized into three series of courses based on the progressive stages of Buddhism. Based on this view, the Path of Study completely integrates with the Path of Meditation.

The typical entry point to the Path of Study is the Introduction to Buddhism courses (101-104), followed by the Hinayana courses (201-202) and the Mahayana courses (301-306).

Courses in the Introduction to Buddhism series are tuition-free and require only the purchase of a course book. For students living outside of the United States or who have financial restrictions, an online eReader option is available.

Subsequent courses in the Hinayana and Mahayana curricula carry a suggested $65 tuition for the public ($40 suggested tuition for Nalandabodhi members). They too require the purchase of course books.
