The journey of working with our mind begins with getting to know our mind.
Through meditation, you come to know and become friends with your mind.
Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche
This course will offer an opportunity to practice together as a community by providing experiential guidance for working with our minds through shamatha meditation.
Knowing Oneself is required material for those on the HIN curriculum. The HIN Shamatha Practice Binder (which includes Knowing Oneself) can be purchased via this link).
Shamatha meditation offers a way for us to make friends with our thoughts and emotions. By simply observing them, we can get to know the nature of mind. We get to know ourselves. We don’t want to change our thoughts or reject them. As Zen master Suzuki Roshi said, “we invite them in but we don’t serve them tea.”
Eight sequential methods of meditation will be presented, starting with shamatha and moving into Vipashyana meditation. Each class will include a description of the technique to be practiced, a guided meditation, and plenty of time for discussion and questions.
Whether you are new to meditation or would like to refresh your practice please join us!
